RULES FOR SELECTION FOR AN EPSS IPT TEAM

 Trials participation

  1. There will be three sets of trials for selection for the EP IPT teams. To be eligible for selection, a player must participate in all THREE (3) sets of trials.

  2. 1st Trial: open to any school player. Players entering for the u11 age group must turn 10 or 11 in the year of the tournament.

  3. 2nd Trial: by invitation only.

  4. 3rd Trial: by invitation only.

  5. The 3rd Trial will serve as the Age-Group Championship Tournament. In order to be the Age-Group Champion a player must win the 3rd trials AND participate in the Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT).

  6. In the case of illness or injury on this Championship Day, the player will forfeit the chance to be Age-Group Champion.

  7. Permission to miss a trial through injury or any other reason can only be granted in writing by the age group co-ordinator after consultation with the Chairperson of the EPSS committee.

  8. A player who misses a trial for an acceptable reason will be seeded in a position decided by the age group co-ordinator for the next trial. The age group coordinator may request a challenge if he/she is uncertain as to position if the trial missed is the 3rd trial.

Selection process

  1. The selection panel will consist of the age group co-ordinator and an assistant approved by the EPSS committee. The final selections are discussed with, and approved by, the EP Schools Squash Committee.

  2. The results of the three (3) trials are used for selection. In addition, performance under pressure, trials attendance, squad attendance, commitment, and attitude will also be considered.

  3. Age will be considered for primary school selection. The need for development can also be considered, particularly for primary school selection.

  4. If there is doubt about selection after the final trials, the selectors can then look at results from (whichever applicable):

    1. EP Tournaments - Ranking Tournament, Alan Stapleton/EP Open, The  Bay Junior Open;

    2. EP Senior competitions (Men’s and Ladies leagues; Senior EP Tournaments);

    3. Schools league matches if the match is best of five (5) games; and

    4. National tournaments

  5. The selectors may, with the approval of the committee, drop any player before or after the teams have been announced if, in their opinion, the attitude of the player warrants such action.

  6. Players are NOT allowed to challenge for position after selection. Any challenge matches may only be played at the request of the age group co-ordinator prior to announcement of the IPT teams. This challenge match will only be arranged if the age group co-ordinator is in doubt about a position.

  7. The winner of this 3rd trial/tournament (i.e. the Age-Group Champion) will not necessarily play in the No. 1 position in the provincial team.

  8. Any player selected for an EP IPT team is required to use the official transport and accommodation provided for the IPT, as arranged by the age group coordinator unless specified otherwise.
